QC-tested and field-proven to be the superior material for heavy duty applications in automotive, aerospace, heavy production and material handling industries requiring speeds greater than 5 m.p.h. and high load capacities. VULKOLLAN® / TRACTOTHAN® are used in caster wheels, pallet rollers, AGV’s, forklifts, material handling trucks, guide rollers and special rollers, all with precision bearings, as well as large press-ons and drive wheels with keyways.

VULKOLLAN® is a highly elastic cross-linked polyurethane elastomer produced on the basis of Desmodur® 15 of Bayer (Leverkusen).
Among the excellent mechanical characteristics of VULKOLLAN® are: high dynamic load capacity, higher abrasion and tear propagation resistance than most other materials; the highest modulus of elasticy of all materials; good mechanical wear resistance and impact resilience as well as a low compression set.
Furthermore, VULKOLLAN® offers more chemical resistance to mineral oils and greases and different solvents. It is specially recommended for high requirements regarding load capacity, rebound, resilience, speed and durability.
Therefore, VULKOLLAN® is preferred for drive and load wheels for industrial trucks, in materials handling and mechanical engineering.
VULKOLLAN® takes 4-6 weeks to produce due to the stabilizing requirements needed. Thus, it is important to all adequate time for any application.
TRACTOTHAN® is VULKOLLAN® composite material developed and patened by RÄDER-VOGEL® and features the same characteristics as VULKOLLAN® in the production process developed. Special TPU granules are integrated into the tread, thereby enhancing the wheel grip and lowering the risk of sliding.

For extremely dynamic applications, very heavy loads and high speeds, the use of VULKOLLAN® 95 Shore A is recommended. Other applications are high-duty reach and narrow isle trucks in cooler and freezer storage. During prolonged standstill, e.g. overnight, dive and load wheels with softer treads can flatten and recover only slowly due to the low ambient temperatures and may cause intolerable vibrations. To avoid this, we recommend the use of VULKOLLAN® wheel treads with higher shore hardness (95° Shore A instead of the commonly used 93° Shore A) which are more resistant to flattening and quicker to recover their shape.

With a shore hardness of 85° Shore A, VULKOSOFT® is an ideal choice if you look for a wheel material with high load capacity combined with good noise and vibration dampening and floor-saving properties, e.g. tile floors. VULKOSOFT® is, for instance, used on pallet trucks to reduce noise disturbance on deliveries to supermarkets in residential areas. In case of traction problems in deep-freeze areas, the use of VULKOSOFT® treads has also prove to be of value – especially on the drives of shuttle systems and walkie trucks. Non-marking VULKOSOFT® has the same excellent mechanical properties as all other VULKOLLAN® types, namely high-dynamic load capacity, good abrasion and tear resistance, high-impact resilience, low compression set as well as good chemical resistant to mineral oils, greases and various solvents.

VULKOLLAN® – the best of urethanes – is designed to take heavy loads under demanding conditions and is a must for speeds above 5 mph. Load ratings must be reduced for operation under any or all of the following conditions:
• Frequent use in excess of 45 minutes continuous: reduce loadings by 25%
• Driving applications: reduce loadings by 30%
• Speeds 6-10 kph (3.73–6.21 mph): reduce loads by 20%
• Speeds10-16 kph (6.21–10 mph): reduce loadings by 30%

VULKOLLAN® Wheels for Industrial Trucks The high dynamic load capacity and the highest modulus of elasticity of all elastomers are only two of the outstanding properties of VULKOLLAN®. The highly elastic polyurethane elastomer on the basis of Desmodur 15, Bayer AG (Leverkusen) is suited to meet especially the high requirements of narrow aisle and industrial trucks with regard to load capacity, impact resilience, velocity and durability. For the most common industrial trucks we use VULKOLLAN® in the production of drive and load wheels. TRACTOTHAN® is a composite material developed by RÄDER-VOGEL® on the basis of VULKOLLAN® and is characterized by a better traction. |

TRACTOTHAN® Wheels for Industrial Trucks TRACTOTHAN® has been developed especially for this field of application. It is a VULKOLLAN® composite material (basis Desmodur 15, Bayer AG) having the same outstanding properties as VULKOLLAN®. In addition, TRACTOTHAN® is characterized by a better traction. The starting properties are improved, the slip is reduced, and the braking effect is increased. Consequently, TRACTOTHAN® is used for narrow aisle and industrial trucks in in-plant transportation operating on fine, smooth and on wet and dirty ground. When using TRACTOTHAN® wheels, the stopping distance is reduced and, therefore, there is an improved operating safety. |

VULKOLLAN® Heavy Duty Wheels As tread for heavy duty wheels VULKOLLAN® (on the base of Desmodur 15, Bayer AG) has more excellent properties than natural/synthetic rubber: higher abrasion and tear propagation resistance than most of the other materials, high wear resistance, longer service life and a dynamic load capacity being 2,5 times that of rubber at the same dimensions, etc. We have extensive technical know-how and years of experience in the production of VULKOLLAN® heavy duty wheels. |

Electrically conductive VULKOLLAN® The use of VULKOLLAN® wheels for forklift trucks and other applications which correspond to the testing methods for electrical resistance was up till now only possible by integrating a brass brush. The brass brush was fixed on the wheel centre and then casted in VULKOLLAN®. This procedure is time-consuming and causes high costs. Moreover the width of the contact surface (about 15 mm) discharging electrical charges and the durability of wheels with brass brush were limited as e.g. the compression heat developed by the wheel concentrated at the brush and - contrary to VULKOLLAN® - the chemical resistance of the brass brush against some caustic solutions and acids was not given. RÄDER-VOGEL® was not satisfied by this solution and has therefore developed a new method for the fabrication of electrically conductive VULKOLLAN® wheels, for which they have applied for a patent. According to the European standards EN 12527 and EN 12533, the volume resistance value may not be superior to 104 (10.000) Ohm. This requirement is even exceeded. |
